FREE TUTORIAL! A Clean & Simple Birthday Card Using My Favorite Things!

Hello Reader,

It’s time for another dose of creative inspiration (free tutorial below)—this one based on yesterday’s exclusive sketch!

Today’s card features two of My Favorite Things from the newest Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusive release: the Banner Sayings Bundle and the Brushed with Beauty Suite. I love how the bold sentiment banner layers beautifully over soft, organic florals. A touch of vellum adds subtle elegance while keeping the design clean and simple—my signature style!

Finished with a few Pearls of Beauty and a bit of Linen Thread, this handmade birthday card is proof that less can truly be more.

measure & cut (from bottom to top):

card base:

  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4

layers (from bottom to top & before die-cutting):

  • Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper: 5 x 3 3/4
  • Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper: 4 3/4 x 3 1/2
  • Vellum Specialty Paper: 3 3/4 x 2 3/4
  • Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper: 4 x 3 (before die-cutting)
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock (sentiment): 3 x 1 (before punching)

stamp:

  • Use a Clear Block C or Stamp Positioning Tool to stamp the sentiment (Banner Sayings Stamp Set) in Mossy Meadow Classic Ink onto the Very Vanilla sentiment layer.

crop & cut:

  • Use a ​​Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine​​ (Standard or Mini) to crop the leaves from the Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper using the two Petals of Beauty dies.
  • Crop the sentiment using the coordinating Three Banner Punch.

assemble & adhere:

  • Burnish the fold of the card base with a Bone Folder.
  • Adhere the two Designer Series Paper layers together with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  • Adhere the large die-cut to the Vellum with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  • Adhere the Vellum to the Designer Series Paper layer using a small amount of Multipurpose Liquid Glue, applied only behind the die-cut so the adhesive doesn’t show through.
  • Adhere the small die-cut with a Mini Glue Dot.
  • Double wrap all layers with Linen Thread, securing with a bow. Adhere to the card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Adhere the sentiment as shown with a Mini Glue Dot on the left and double-stacked Stampin' Dimensionals on the right.

embellish:

  • Embellish with 5 Crumb Cake Pearls of Beauty.
